Junior Class
At Manchester Aikido Dojo, our Junior class is designed for children aged 10 to 18, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for young martial artists. In this class, students learn the fundamental techniques of Aikido, focusing on balance, and self-discipline.
The Junior class at Manchester Dojo is led by Robert Yates, a 6th Dan Shidoin with the British Aikido Federation. Robert also serves as the current representative of the BAF to the International Aikido Federation Youth Group.

How old does my child need to be to join the Junior Class?At Manchester Dojo we accept Junior Members from the age of 10 upwards.

When is the Junior Class?The Junior Class is held every Sunday Morning 10:00 - 12:00. Junior members should arrive at least 15 minutes early to help lay the mat. At the end of the class, Junior members are expected to put their practice mat away.

What should my child wear?When your child first starts, they should wear loose fitting clothes such as jogging bottoms and t-shirt. If your child decides to continue with their training, you should look to purchase a Gi. Manchester Dojo can assist in recommended reputable suppliers.

How much is the class?At Manchester Dojo the 2 hour junior class is £2.50. There is a yearly membership payable to the British Aikido Federation which is currently £15.00. This includes £5 insurance for your child.

What happens when they turn 18?When your child turns 18, they will be invited to train on the regular mat with the adults. The junior class is strictly for children between the ages of 10-18.

Are the Instructors DBS checked?Yes. At Manchester Dojo we ensure that any instructor who teaches the Junior class has a valid DBS check. We also have a Safeguarding Office for both adults and junior members. To learn more about safeguarding at Manchester Dojo, please visit the safeguarding page.
