Club Constitution

SECTION 1.
Name,  
This club shall be known as the Manchester Aikido Club (Wa Go Kan Dojo) and is hereinafter referred to as the "Club"

SECTION 2.
Objects
To Promote, maintain, improve and advance the education of the public in the physical, spiritual and intellectual understanding of Aikido, a martial art from Japan, according to the principles laid down by the Founder Morihei Ueshiba, and by Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba, Head of the Aikikai Foundation, Aikido World Headquarters, Tokyo (the Foundation) and his successors (each of whom shall be approved by the Foundation).

SECTION 3.
Officers of the Club
The business of the Club shall normally be conducted by a Committee, which shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting to hold office for one year.
This Committee shall consist of:
Chairman
Vice-Chairman
Secretary
Treasurer
If any vacancy on the Committee occurs during the year this shall be filled by a co-option.
Any Member of the Committee who, in the opinion of the majority of the Committee (whose decision shall be final) is absent too often to fulfill their obligations as a full member of the said Committee may be asked for his or her resignation.

SECTION 4.
Business Meetings of the Club
These shall normally consist of:
(a) Committee Meetings
(b) Annual General Meeting
Committee Meetings will take place as and when agreed by the Committee.
(b) The Annual General Meeting will be called by the Secretary and will take place each year during the month of March.
Any five members shall constitute a quorum
The Treasurer and Secretary shall each be required to present a report to the meeting.
Extraordinary General Meetings
These may be called by the Secretary as required, or in the following manner:
Club members may convene an Extraordinary General Meeting by forming a quorum of not less than five members, who shall hand their proposed resolution which must bear the signature of each, to the Secretary not less than fourteen days before the desired date of the meeting.

SECTION 5.
Membership and the right to practice
Admission to membership and use of the Club's facilities as a visitor are to be at the discretion of the Club's Instructors, acting on behalf of the Committee and such Instructors shall have the right to refuse application for membership or use of facilities as a visitor on any reasonable grounds including but without prejudice to the generality of the same:
(a) If any person be deemed of unsuitable character or of insufficient age
(b) If insufficient Club facilities are available
This right may also be exercised in the case of members wishing to rejoin for a further term.
In addition the Committee shall have the power to suspend or expel any member for infringement of Club Rules or any other conduct whether inside or outside the Dojo which may be considered detrimental to the Club.
Any member so judged shall have the right of appeal to a meeting of the Committee and shall be entitled to appear before the Committee and present his/her case.

SECTION 6.
Fees
These will be as follows:
(a) Annual Subscription (payable to the British Aikido Federation)
(b) Mat fees (payable by both members and Visitors)
Annual subscription shall be at a rate agreed upon by the National Executive Committee of the British Aikido Federation.  Mat Fees shall be at a rate agreed upon by the club members.
A temporary annual subscription shall become due on the first day of practice (to obtain insurance cover via the British Aikido Board).  The balance of the Annual subscription shall become due within one month and renewable every twelve months thereafter.
The mat fee shall be payable on each occasion of practice.
All such fees collected shall be used to finance Club activities and shall not go to the individual profit of any member of the Club.
Bank Account
Mat Fees and other moneys as collected by the Treasurer are to be deposited in a Club Bank Account.
All withdrawals shall be made by cheque, for Club activities and purchases. Cheques shall be signed jointly by at least two Committee Members.

SECTION 7.
General
(a) Members will be expected to abide by the normal Dojo etiquette and all Club Rules.
(b) The Committee shall have no power to contract any debt in the name of the Club on any pretext whatsoever.
(c) This Club shall be affiliated to the British Aikido Federation in accordance with the Regulations of that Association.  The club shall also be affiliated, via the British Aikido Federation, to the British Aikido Board.
(d) Each paid up member of the Club will be covered for insurance purposes to the extent of cover provided by membership of the British Aikido Board.
(e) Neither the Club or any of it’s officer shall be liable or responsible for any loss or damage to property occurring on Club premises or at any class of instruction exhibition or elsewhere (including at any class of instruction, exhibition or show).
(f) Any matters as they arise and which are not covered by these rules must be referred to the committee for any decision that may be necessary.
(g) Any additions to or alterations of this constitution may only be made by a General Meeting of the Club.    
This is the democratic basis on which your Club is to be run. However, should you have any queries or dissatisfactions about the running of The Club please do not hesitate to talk them over with any member of the Committee.
